About Jesús

A son of Mexican immigrants, Jesús Andrade grew up working for the family business, a company that specialized in training and managing hundreds of migrant workers for cherry and tomato harvests.

The first in his family to attend college, Jesús graduated from Sacramento State University with a Bachelors in Philosophy. While attending Sacramento State, he would serve as student body president.

After college, Jesús landed a public policy fellowship in the California State Assembly with the Capital Fellows Programs, named one of the top-ten internships in the nation. Jesús was later selected by a national Latino organization, looking to improve quality of life for Latinos, to focus on economic development and education issues.

As a parent with children in charter schools, Jesús saw charter schools as the solution to the lack educational choices in inner-city neighborhoods. He witnessed students in the inner-city receiving excellent academic instruction through charter school opportunities.

This eye-opening experience led Jesús to join the team at StudentsFirst, an educational advocate organization founded by former chancellor of Washington D.C. public schools, Michelle Rhee. StudentsFirst focused on putting the needs of students before those of adults in education. Jesús would later work for the California Charter School Association, educating parents and students about barriers to education reform and what they could do to change the system that is failing our kids.

Today, Jesús serves the South Stockton District he grew up in, on the Stockton City Council. Focused on giving South Stockton a voice, he has worked tirelessly to build greater business and educational opportunities for District 6 residents, while improving South Stockton’s quality of life and making neighborhoods safer.

Currently the CEO of the San Joaquin County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Jesús has also worked to expand business opportunities for Hispanic businesses by encouraging mutually beneficial public / private sector ties.

Jesús, his wife Andrea and their three wonderful children proudly call South Stockton home.

Jesús on the Issues

KEEPING FAMILIES SAFE
Over the past decade the Golden State dream has been diminished by unchecked lawlessness. So-called criminal reforms from our soft-on-crime State Legislature cater to the rights of criminals and hurt law-abiding citizens. Jesús will work for real prison reform as opposed to the revolving door approach foisted upon us by Sacramento Politicians. It is imperative that criminals who cannot be reformed serve full sentences, while those that want a new life have an opportunity to be rehabilitated.

PROTECTING OUR WATER
Liberal L.A. politicians want to send our water to Southern California. You can count on Jesús to stand up against anyone that attempts to steal one drop of our water! Funding for this ill-conceived ‘Twin Tunnels’ project should be spent on more water storage! We need a reliable supply of clean water for our homes, businesses and farms. As your State Senator, Jesús will do everything possible to protect and preserve our most valuable resource, WATER!

STANDING UP FOR TAXPAYERS
While politicians in Sacramento and big money special interests form an unholy alliance, the rest of us are left with the scraps they choose to throw our way. Jesús favors a strict state budget spending cap, will oppose tax hikes and battle any effort to gut Proposition 13 property tax savings. He also favors reforming the unfair public employee retirement system because its jeopardizing vital local government services.
